You are at average risk for colorectal cancer.
The American Cancer Society recommends the following screening options for average risk individuals:
- Flexible sigmoidoscopy every 5 years PLUS Fecal Occult Blood Testing yearly, or
- Flexible sigmoidoscopy every 5 years, or
- Fecal occult blood testing yearly, or
- Total colon exam every 10 years (Air contrast barium enema + Flexible sigmoidoscopy OR colonoscopy)
Individuals with symptoms such as change in bowel movements or blood in stool should contact their physician right away. These recommendations are only a guide; you should discuss with your primary care provider which option is best for you.
